Metals

Graphite

Of all the materials that Inductotherm Group equipment refines in one way or another, graphite is perhaps the most misunderstood. To start, graphite is not even a metal, but rather a form of carbon that is also an element. But it does have special capabilities, the most significant of which is that it is a good conductor of electricity. Additionally, because it is a mineral made up of carbon atoms, graphite has a slippery texture that makes it a highly effective “dry” lubricant.

The thermal processing of graphite is not a simple operation, often requiring zoned induction heating coils and multiple output power supplies to manage ultra-high temperatures.  Maintaining the desired temperature profile within the susceptor is critical in achieving optimum productivity. With those constraints in mind, Inductotherm Group companies manufacture an array of advanced melting systems used across the globe for the thermal processing of graphite.
