Automatic Electrode Positioning System

For efficient transfer of energy through the corona field to the surface of the material, it is critical to have the proper air gap or space between the product and electrode. If this gap is too big, the machine may not be able to start producing corona, may trip out while running, or the corona field maybe inefficient and result in an uneven pattern across the electrode. If the gap is too close, the risk of rubbing against the material causing damage to the material or roll covering and also result in uneven-sporadic treatment. Because of these issues, it is critical that the air gap be maintained at the recommended distance.

Overview

To maintain repeatability, consistency and remove operator error at setting the air gap, Corotec has developed an Automatic Electrode Positioning system. This system allows the operator to enter the material thickness and desired gap setting. Once entered, the system will automatically move the electrode into the precise position. These entered values or recipe can then be saved into an internal database to be retrieve at a later date. There is also a manual movement function to allow the operator to position the electrode by sight. The Automatic Electrode System can be purchased with a new system or can be retrofitted to many older systems running in the field.
