Steel Plantech and Inductotherm Group Japan Form Business Alliance

Steel Plantech

Steel Plantech Co., Ltd. and Inductotherm Group Japan K.K. have concluded a business alliance agreement for the sales and plant engineering of electromagnetic induction furnace melting equipment (hereinafter referred to as EIF), which is the main product of Inductotherm Group Japan.

In order to achieve the Japan government’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, we will contribute to the greening (decarbonization) of the steel, non-ferrous, material, and metal recycling fields by providing a metal refining process that uses clean electrical energy.

Inductotherm Group Japan was established in 1982 as a Japan corporation of Inductotherm Group, Inc. (New Jersey, USA), which has 40 offices in 21 countries around the world. Inductotherm Group is the world’s largest producer of EIF, designing and manufacturing high-efficiency, high-capacity induction equipment based on its unique induction melting and heating design concept, and providing process knowledge and after-sales service worldwide.

Established in 2001 through the merger of the steelmaking machinery businesses of the four parent companies (JFE Engineering, Hitachi Zosen, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and Sumitomo Heavy Industries), Steel Plantech is a comprehensive plant manufacturer in the fields of iron making, steelmaking, continuous casting, rolling, and surface treatment. We have installed more than 100 units of one of our main products, the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), in Japan and overseas since Steel Plantech was founded.  In 2021, the environmentally-friendly high-efficiency electric arc furnace “ECOARC”™ was certified by the Ministry of the Environment as an “Advanced Equipment and System” under the “Advanced Energy Conservation Investment Promotion Project.” In addition, since 2018, we have been developing smart products that utilize AI and robotics technologies, as well as working on productivity and quality improvement and unmanned technologies in the fields of electric arc furnaces, continuous casting, and rolling.

Through this alliance, it will be possible to integrate Inductotherm Group Japan’s high-performance EIF technology with Steel Plantech’s EAF melting and refining processes and smart products engineering technologies. We will share “green and smart” with our customers and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society through the integrated technologies of both companies.
