Product Details

Overview

Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) is a highly specialized secondary melting process used to produce metal ingots with exceptional chemical and mechanical homogeneity. This characteristic makes them ideal for critical applications demanding exceptional performance in industries like:

Aerospace: Jet engine components, airframes
Power generation: Turbine blades, discs
Medical: Implants, surgical instruments

Consarc stands out by leveraging advanced computer controls to ensure consistent, optimal performance and simplified operation. VAR furnaces can be customized to meet the specific requirements of our customers, such as ingot production of specific diameters and laboratory-scale research and development. By combining cutting-edge technology with deep industry knowledge, Consarc® VAR furnaces empower manufacturers to create high-performance metals for demanding applications, shaping the future of critical industries.

Features

Consarc® VARs feature coaxial current furnace designs to reduce magnetic stirring within the solidifying ingot, and X-Y electrode positioning to center the electrode and improve ingot quality.

Canterlever design VAR furnaces enabling minimized footprint providing additional space for maintenance or additional furnaces in a given furnace hall.
Highly robust power supply custom-designed and built by Consarc specifically for the arduous VAR process with closed loop deionized cooling system
Temperature regulated closed-loop economizer cooling system or recirculating crucible water circuit
Fully automated controls from start-up through completion of hot top
Full suite of safety features including argon gas backfill, resealing overpressure relief valves and PLC safety logic for furnaces used to melt reactive metals
Precision melt rate control using load cells
High-speed processor for counting drip shorts
No hydraulics – all motions are electromechanical or pneumatic

Consarc® Reactive VAR (RVAR) technology is supplied for reactive metals remelting (such as Titanium and Zirconium) and employs a suite of additional specific safety features.

Purpose-Designed DC Power Supplies

Consarc is the only VAR furnace supplier that designs and builds our own power supplies. Variable Reactance Transformer (VRT) or Thyristor (SCR) power supplies are manufactured in-house by Consarc or Inductotherm Group. These units are specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of the VAR melting application with minimal maintenance requirements and long operational life. This provides Consarc customers with a single-source supply for the complete VAR and power transmission system.
